Super Evil Megacorp is preparing for the upcoming release of Vainglory, its multiplayer online battle arena game (MOBA) for iPad 2+ and iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Set for release in October, the game sees players competing in 3-vs-3 team battles, as they control a single hero and work with their partners to destroy a giant crystal, called the Vain, in the enemy’s base. Vainglory takes advantage of the A8 chip technology and Metal SDK to create a console-like experience for players, even on smartphones.
While mobile users have plenty of options for shopping on their mobile devices, Bestie’s self-titled app wants to be the best, offering an Instagram-inspired view of products from a user’s favorite stores, as well as other users. Available to download for free on iOS (and also available on the web), Bestie allows users to follow the stores they love, and view products posted in a selection of categories, from “women” to home and office products. Users can shop for items from directly within the app, or share their favorite items with friends, which can also be purchased.
Gameloft and Marvel have launched Spider-Man Unlimited on smartphone and tablet devices, giving players access to a new experience called a “web-runner.” The game is a take on the popular endless runner genre, and sees players racing across the rooftops of New York City, as well as swinging between buildings, in an effort to defeat Spider-Man’s enemies.
At an event today in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones, with the company calling the devices “the biggest advancements in iPhone history.” The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus offer 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays, respectively, and feature advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, the Apple-designed A8 chip, improved wireless technologies, increased battery life, and Apple Pay, a new way to use one’s phone for making payments in-stores and online.
Rovio has today launched the latest installment in its massively popular Angry Birds franchise: Angry Birds Stella. The game is centered around a cute pink bird named Stella, who must protect her home from the evil “Bad Princess.” The Princess is using pigs as her minions, so players will need to fling Stella and her friends at new pig-filled strongholds to earn stars on each of the game’s 120+ levels.
Social and mobile game company King has announced the launch of Diamond Digger Saga on mobile devices. The match-three game was originally released on Facebook earlier this year, and challenges players to dig their way into the ground, spreading water through their created tunnels to complete quests. The game offers cross-platform support, allowing existing Facebook players to connect to their accounts and begin playing where they left off.
Oculus VR and Samsung have today announced the development of the Samsung Gear VR, a mobile virtual reality headset, powered by Oculus, for the equally new Galaxy Note 4. The headset offers a wireless experience, as users will connect the Note 4 to the headset, with the Note 4 acting as the screen, and can instantly dive into a variety of titles, including games and Oculus-built apps.
Disney Interactive and Lucasfilm have today announced the launch of Star Wars: Commander on iOS devices. The base-building combat game sees players traveling to Tatooine, where they’ll create a base and join either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire. The choice impacts the characters and military units players will have access to, as well as the game’s storyline and overall goal.
EA Mobile has announced its newest content update in The Simpsons: Tapped Out on mobile. This game-changing update takes a stab at the many base-building combat games on mobile devices, and sees players building up their own troops before sending them into battle against their neighbors.
