Studio: a graphics and photo app for visual communicators, designers
Visual communicators will be quick to love this newly updated app from Studio – it’s like Photoshop and Illustrator for your smartphone photos. Use it to create quick photo-based graphics that you can share or remix.
If you’re not a designer, don’t let the words Photoshop and layers scare you away – Studio is an app that anyone can use. The best part is the remix feature. If you see other users’ graphics you like, just snag them and make them your own! Clicking on the remix button will pull up your camera to take a picture or you can grab any photo from your camera roll. Once you’ve added your personal image and made all of the changes you want – the app even shares the credits indicating the original graphics creator.
If you’re comfortable making your own from scratch, just start with an image and some filters. Next, add layers of shapes, textures, and fonts. Each layer can be adjusted for color, transparency, size, ordering – or, even deleted if you don’t like it. If the layers sounds familiar, don’t be fooled, this is no replacement for Photoshop and Illustrator. The app doesn’t let you upload your own font packs or any filters of your choice. It’s a good, social solution for those who want to make quick graphics for sharing, but don’t want to mess around with fonts or layers.
Here is a sample of an image I made using Studio. It took me about 20 minutes to install and learn all of the app features as I “designed” the fonts and colors for my original photo from scratch. Keep in mind I have experience using Adobe software. Others might take a bit longer, so the remix feature might be the best and easiest option. I should also add that the photo filters are not the best for a photo app, so you’re better off with VSCOcam or Instagram for filter effects.
