Apple’s app design Bible is now a free iBook through iTunes
Apple’s app design Bible, iOS Human Interface Guidelines, is now a free download from iTune’s iBookstore. The guidelines were only previously available through Apple’s Developer Portal, but now it’s free as a convenient iBook document with useful annotations and videos.
Once inside the app design Bible, readers can glean some of the design decisions Apple developers go through when creating apps for iOS. From understanding what makes a great user experience to clean, simple color palettes and fonts – the book is a nice way to browse what was once only available as a PDF.
As a whole, readers can simplify iOS 7’s design methodology into these basic principles:
Deference. The UI helps users understand and interact with the content, but never competes with it.
Clarity. Text is legible at every size, icons are precise and lucid, adornments are subtle and appropriate,
and a sharpened focus on functionality motivates the design.
Depth. Visual layers and realistic motion impart vitality and heighten users’ delight and understanding
To access Apple’s app design Bible as an iBook, you’ll need iTunes and iOS mobile with iBooks 1.5 or later and iOS 4.3.3 or higher, or a Mac running iBooks 1.0 or later and OS X 10.9 or higher.
