Gem Flurry: Create matches before the board fills on iOS
Stormburn Limited has launched its newest game on iOS devices: Gem Flurry. Created with the goal of taking the “tired old ‘matching’ puzzle genre and [mixing] it up,” Gem Flurry was designed with a focus on speed and reflexes, rather than concentration and combos, as players must continue to create matches with gems, before the screen completely fills.
In each game of Gem Flurry, players start with a random assortment of colored gems, which grows larger over time. Players tap and drag on groups of three or more touching like-colored gems to remove them from the screen. As more gems are added to the screen from all directions, the entire assortment moves and bounces around the screen to challenge players’ reflexes.
Each match is worth points, with larger groups being worth bonus points. If the goal is a high score, rather than survival, it’s possible to allow the screen to almost entirely fill before clearing out large groups of gems, earning lots of bonus points in the process.
Over time, new gems appear in larger groups, filling the screen faster. Rainbow stars also appear, and can be used as gems of any color. When the screen eventually fills, it’s game over, and players can share their high scores with friends via Facebook, Twitter, text message or email.
