Gusto secures $1.3 million in financing for growth of mobile email app
Mobile email, productivity and organization company Gusto has announced it has secured $1.3 million in financing, in a round led by Elevate Ventures, for the expansion of its Gusto email client app on iPhone. The Gusto app automatically sorts emails, attachments and photos, giving users a better way to browse the emails they’re most interested in, rather than leaving everything in a single, sometimes giant list.
The Gusto email app launched earlier this month, and offers sorting of emails into four tabs: Mail, Files, Photos and All. Once inside a tab, users can pinch to zoom to expand their inbox and view larger email previews, while the Photos tab shows photos as large thumbnails, and includes support for images that are in the body of messages (that is, those not sent as attachments).
For increased user friendliness, Gusto offers searching by keyword, person, file type, account, date and more, and also supports attaching files to new emails.
Founded by Shawn Schwegman, who previously worked with ChaCha and Overstock.com, the Gusto app was created to solve the frustration that occurs when trying to find files and photos buried in a traditional inbox.
“I knew there had to be an easier way to organize my digital life,” said Schwegman. “The average person manages multiple email accounts, uploads hundreds of photos across different social networks, and uses several cloud storage services to save and share important documents. Just as Google organizes and helps you find the world’s content, you use Gusto to organize and find your content.”
For now, the Gusto app only supports Gmail accounts, but future versions of the app will introduce support for Yahoo Mail, Outlook / Hotmail, AOL, Exchange, iCloud and more. The platform will also grow to support social networks and cloud storage services.
