Apple: App Store sales cross $10 billion in 2013
Apple has announced its sales figures for 2013, revealing that customers spent over $10 billion on the App Store last year. Over $1 billion of that came from December alone, as new customers received iOS devices during the holiday season.
App Store customers broke records in December, with almost three billion apps downloaded last month, making it the most successful month in the App Store’s history. Apple also revealed it has paid out over $15 billion to developers to date.
Apple praised its international community of developers, highlighting companies like QuizUp developer Plain Vanilla, Device 6 maker Simogo and Procreate developer Savage Interactive as companies to watch in 2014, among others.
The App Store now offers more than 1 million apps to iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users in 155 countries, with over 500,000 native iPad apps currently available.
“We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”
