Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed speeds onto iOS and Android
Sega has kicked 2014 off with a bang, releasing Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on iOS and Android devices. The game was originally released on home consoles in late 2012, and has been redesigned specifically for this release on mobile.
The game is a sequel to Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and sees players taking the wheel as their favorite Sega characters, racing around tracks inspired by Sega franchises. The biggest change here over previous installments is the ability for the player’s kart to change form mid-race, becoming a boat or an airplane, depending on the track.
In each race, forward acceleration is handled by the game, leaving the player to focus on steering, drifting around corners and the use of power-ups. Steering is accomplished via a virtual joystick, while drifting is assigned to a single large button on the right side of the screen.
Players can collect power-ups on each track, like missiles, gloves, blowfish or ice pellets (as examples), and can activate these by swiping up or down on the screen (where applicable, a downward swipe sends these weapons backwards to potentially hit vehicles behind the player).
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed features multiple game modes and individual race types, including both single-player and local or online multiplayer races. While gamers can complete basic circuit events, boost events and drift challenges are also available, among other events.
The game’s multiplayer mode is locked until users make progress in the single-player World Tour mode, or this can be unlocked instantly via the purchase of the game’s VIP Pass for $4.99 (this pass also unlocks additional playable characters and Stars, the game’s premium currency).
As players complete events and win Rings, they can spend these Rings to play previously completed races on higher difficulty settings. Rings can also be spent unlocking additional characters, like Ulala, Amy or Tails.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is now available to download for $4.99 on iOS and Google Play. Check back soon to follow the game on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
