WinZip on iOS receives new functionality and redesign in Version 2.0 update
WinZip has announced a redesign of its iOS app, bringing new functionality to users on iPhone and iPad. The Version 2.0 update features support for more common file types, a refreshed user interface and more in both a free and paid (full) version.
The new WinZip iOS app offers support for a variety of file types, from .doc and .rtf to Numbers spreadsheets and media files like .mp3 and .mov. The app allows users to view all images in a zip file in an enhanced image viewer, and open and save email attachments in a “My Documents” folder locally stored on a user’s iPhone or iPad.
The contents of Zip files can be copied to the clipboard, and support is available for both Zip and RAR files downloaded from webmail portals including Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail. These files can then be transferred into another app for advanced viewing or editing.
The free version of WinZip on iOS comes with ads and doesn’t support Zip files with advanced AES encryption, but a full, ad-free premium version, with supported encryption, can be purchased for $4.99.
“Tablets and phones are essential tools for business on the go. With the new WinZip for iOS, you can take advantage of WinZip’s legendary zip and encryption to easily save and share files on your iPhone and iPad, while keeping your info safe from prying eyes,” said Patrick Nichols, President of WinZip, via a company press release.
The overall WinZip iOS experience has been enhanced to offer better simplicity when extracting files, saving space on devices and using less bandwidth for sharing files in the process. Both versions of the app are now available to download on the App Store.
