CoTap, a Corporate Mobile Messaging App, Raises $5.5M Series A
Still operating in stealth mode, Yammer’s ex-chief product officer Jim Patterson and ex-senior director of engineering Zack Parker are working on the enterprise solution to newer mobile messaging apps, such as Line and WhatsApp.
Unlike Yammer, CoTap is, by default, a private messaging app, sending notifications to only the people mentioned in the post. Even with Facebook’s push into private group messaging, Patterson is confident of his company’s position. “It’s really hard for a single [messaging] product to be both open (social) and private,” he said to TechCrunch.
CoTap thinks they have carved a niche space for themselves in the corporate mobile market. However, the team realizes that “users always surprise you in some way,” so they may consider building a desktop app, though it does not seem to be on their roadmap in the foreseeable future.
