Aerox, Video Tube Free for YouTube, Angry Birds Star Wars apps and more on this week’s top free mobile apps charts

Physics-based puzzler Aerox shot up the top free iPhone apps list to the No. 2 spot thanks to making the game free for a limited time. South Korean pop star Psy’s popularity continues to rise, with bow and arrow shooter Gangnam Style Massacre ranking No. 3 on iPhone and No. 19 on iPad. Another game going from paid to free was propelled into the top of the charts, with PunchBox Studios’ Pocket Climber landing at the No. 4 hole on iPhone and No. 5 hole on iPad. Despite Google’s official YouTube app taking the top spot on the top free iPhone apps list for the eighth straight week, there still isn’t an official YouTube app for iPad, meaning apps like recently released Video Tube Free for YouTube have taken advantage of that fact, ranking as the No. 1 free app for iPad this week. The first of two recently announced Skylanders titles released last week, with Skylanders Lost Islands ranking No. 12 on iPad.

Since release on Nov. 8, Rovio’s Angry Birds Star Wars has cracked the top 5 of the top free Android apps list, which flung to the No. 4 spot this week.
