The Weather Channel, Weird But True, Android flashlight apps and more on this week’s top free mobile apps charts

As is usually the case with the top free apps lists each week there was a lot of movement on iPhone, iPad and Android. In light of Hurricane Sandy hitting the East Coast, mobile users have been heavily downloading weather apps for the latest weather updates. The Weather Channel shot up the charts on all platforms, ranking No. 8 on iPhone, No. 4 on iPad and No. 16 on Android. Hurricane by American Red Cross jumped from the No. 121 spot last Friday to the No. 4 spot on this week’s top iPhone apps chart. National Geographics interesting facts app Weird But True is free for a limited time, down from $1.99, which sprang the app up to the No. 2 position on iPhone and No. 1 app on iPad.
Utility app Brightest Flashlight Free jumped into the top 25 at the No. 10 spot and Tiny Flashlight + LED rose to the No. 18 spot most likely due to hurricane preparation on the top free Android apps list.
