Rovio’s revenues jump 963% year-on-year to $106.3M in 2011
The Angry Birds empire of mobile games and merchandise netted Rovio $106.3 million in revenue in 2011, a 963 percent increase over the $10 million the company reported in 2010.
According to numbers Rovio released this morning, its earnings before tax were $67.6 million. Rovio’s rapidly expanding consumer products business, which includes toys, candy, clothes and other merchandise, accounted for approximately 30 percent of total revenue for the year.
The company’s also revealed total downloads across all games were 648 million by the end of 2011, and have since climbed to 800 million.
At the end of 2011 Rovio had 200 million monthly active users across both web and mobile platforms, but that number is likely much higher now thanks to the developer’s 2012 releases like the chart-topping Angry Birds Space and the new Facebook version of Angry Birds. According to our traffic tracking service AppData, Angry Birds currently has 23.4 million MAU and 2.9 million DAU on Facebook. For the sake of comparison, Zynga’s catalog of popular social and mobile games had 182 million MAU at the end of the first quarter of 2012.
Rovio’s head of investor relations Ander Lindeberg also teased a possible IPO again, telling Reuters the company was “preparing itself and getting ready” for a public listing, although listing plans are not currently on the company’s agenda.
