Addmired nets $8 million Series B, changes name to Machine Zone
Addmired, the Palo Alto-based developer of free-to-play iOS hits Original Ganstaz and iMob 2, announced today it has raised $8 million dollars in funding from Menlo Ventures and is changing its name to Machine Zone.
The company raised $5.3 million in Series A funding last year from Anthos Capital and Baseline Ventures, and today’s announcement brings its total backing to $13.3 million. As part of the deal Shervin Pishevar, the managing director of Menlo Ventures will join Machine Zone’s board of directors.
The company currently has three games holding steadily in the top 50 of the top grossing iPhone app charts according to our traffic tracking service AppData: Original Gangstaz holds the No. 28 spot, Global War comes in at No. 26 and its latest game, the highly social iMob 2 is No. 24 on the top grossing charts. Other Machine Zone titles on the top grossing charts include Global War Riot, Global War HD, Original Gangstaz Rock and Original Ganstaz HD.
Originally backed by Y Combinator, Machine Zone got its start making the MySpace widget AdHer, but has found considerable success since pivoting into free-to-play game space. Its text-based iOS RPGs have been downloaded more than 40 million times.
