Emerging Top-Grossing iOS Apps: Past Top Paid & Top Free Apps Rise

The top grossing iOS apps list has been fairly active this week with several highlighted apps stemming from the top 30. Interestingly enough, a majority of the games and applications displayed are those that have appeared in top paid or free application lists from weeks past (not just this week’s).

New Titles Within Top Grossing iPhone Apps List

Call of DutyCall of Duty: Zombies — Santa Monica-based international core games developer and publisher Activision holds the highest highlighted top grossing iPhone app this week. Rising all the way up to #12 is Call of Duty: Zombies. The first-person shooter plants players into the Call of Duty style of play, and bombards them with hordes of the undead that can be battled against with up to four playersvia both WiFi and the Internet (two players via Bluetooth). Currently $4.99, part of its growth is likely due to its being reduced in price last week as part of an Independence Day sale. Its iPad counterpart breached the top paid iPad apps list during that time. Call of Duty: Zombies was last updated in September.

Call of Mini: Zombies — Call of Mini: Zombies is an iPhone title that has been rising steadily over the past few weeks and had risen up the top paid list as well in the past. Last updated June 30th with new level maps, the $0.99 game tasks players with surviving a zombie outbreak within a small town. Set in a 3D environment of blocky-looking creatures, users fight back with a variety of unique weapons. The developer behind the title is the mid-sized Triniti Interactive Limited. Founded in 2009, the company hosts nearly 100 different applications on iOS. Call of Mini: Zombies is currently ranked at #20 and further monetizes through several $0.99 in-app purchases.

CoPilotCoPilot Live Premiere USA – A new GPS application rises up to #22 this week. Released July 8th, CoPilot Live Premium USA is a voice-guided GPS program that stores maps on the iPhone itself rather than utilizing data from one’s mobile service. Additionally, the app provides multiple routes, speed limit warnings, and lane indicators. Currently, CoPilot is priced at $9.99 as an introductory offer, but also offers in app purchases for things such as fuel prices and a map of Canada. The title is credited to 1979-founded ALK Technologies, a transportation centric company out of Princeton, New Jersey. CoPilot is also currently ranked #24 on iPad.

Rc Plane 2 — In at #23 is a game from yesterday’s top paid iPhone apps list, Rc Plane 2. In line with this, and along with its initial $0.99 price tag, players can purchase such missions through in-app bundles containing specific aircraft and their missions.

Mall Party — It was a top free iPhone application last week, and now Mall Party is rising up the top grossing iPhone apps list as well, ranking in at #31. The free-to-play game (last updated July 8th) is a business sim style of game where users are able to build and run their own shopping malls around the world; with locals ranging from Paris to New York. In order to monetize, the game offers in-app purchases for virtual currency ranging in price from $0.99 to $99.99. The app is owned by Russia’s Kama Games, who purchased it from its creator Social Expeditions.

Empress of the Deep 2: Song of the Blue Whale Collector’s Edition HD – When the first Empress of the Deep title from long running casual games developer Big Fish Games hit iPad, it did decently well on the top grossing iPad apps list. Now, Big Fish Games has the sequel to that title, Empress of the Deep 2: Song of the Blue Whale Collector’s Edition HD and it ranks at #13. Taking place after the events of the first adventure-style hidden object game, players control Anna as she seeks out four “Children of Light,” and attempts to save them from the Empress Pandora.
